Why do we downgrade God?
I have realized that all of us, including myself have a tendency to think that God is just not big enough to work in our lives. Even if we do not explicitly say it. We don't discuss everything with Him, and only ask Him for certain things either because: "it is not important enough" or "it is too late now". Please understand that in this article my purpose is only to discuss the requesting aspect of prayer. This can range from asking for blessings to trying to get someone saved. Then when we start realizing how great God is, then our worship and daily living will be influenced as well.
I completely understand that we will never be able to comprehend the majesty that is our God, but that is exactly why we should never think something is too big or unusual for Him. GOD CREATED EVERYTHING... INCLUDING TIME, so we should know that He is not limited by anything, seeing that He created everything.
We don't always realize that: He is currently in the past, present and future as we know it.

Has it ever occurred to you, that nothing has ever occurred to God?
- Dr. Kent Hovind
I would like to use an illustration from the Bible to explain this more clearly:
The longest recorded direct speech from God was recorded in the book of Job. Now the book of Job covers the story of Job having the worst day in history. He lost everything in one day including all his children and money. So throughout most of the book, his friends were trying to explain God to him and why this had happened. After a long discussion between Job and the 4 others about the suffering Job was having, God stepped in to give Job and the others a new perspective. To do this he asked Job numerous questions.
He asked him questions like:
- Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. - Job 38: 4 KJV
- Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth? - Job 38: 16 KJV
- Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof, - Job 38: 19 KJV
God asked him these questions and more, already knowing the answers. But they are the type of questions that force us to re-evaluate our lives in a positive manner.
Then Job answered the Lord, and said, I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
- Job 42: 1-6 KJV
When all is said and done, God loves us and knows that we do not fully understand. In saying that, I also believe we should spend more time in scripture and direct conversation with God to try and comprehend the love He has for us and who He really is...
